Choosing indoor plants for low-light rooms

Not every room gets sun, but plenty of plants are happy in bright shade. Place them within a couple of metres of a window, away from direct afternoon light.

Easy picks

• Pothos (money plant): trails or climbs, and tells you when it is thirsty by drooping.
• Snake plant: needs water only every two to three weeks.
• ZZ plant: glossy leaves, very forgiving of missed waterings.
• Peace lily: flowers indoors and loves humidity.

Simple care

Wipe dust off the leaves once a month so they can use the light they get, and turn the pot a quarter turn each week so the plant grows evenly.
